Modern life
requires that we spend more time
sitting than we do in any other
position, because most people
these days sit while working,
commuting, dining, relaxing, and
even while playing. For something
we all do so often, most of us
are aren't very good at it. In
fact, poor posture is absolutely
epidemic in our society, and the
resulting neck pain, back pain,
arthritis, degenerative disc
disease, and spinal deformity are
far too common -- all good reasons to want better posture.
The reality
is, unchecked poor posture habits
will eventually damage the body
through inefficient management of
the massive, ever-present, and
insidious compressive force of
gravity over time. Add to that
the increased risk of
cardiovascular disease, diabetes,
and obesity that comes with
prolonged sitting and it becomes
clear that we must improve our
posture
habits.
